Eight stores linked through common references to love, death, and time: the tortured and desperate relationship of two close friends with the same woman; the erotic adventures of three friends undertaken with the pretext of summoning the spirit of a Greek revolutionary; an affair that ends in marriage thanks to the magical effect of a scarf; the expression of an inadmissible love that leads to a mysterious disappearance; the return of an odd shepherd; the sudden appearance of Death in an undertaker’s tale; the end of the hero of a popular muse; a child’s mysterious disappearance. Memories, history, and time as desperate quests, as baggage, as a lack of love. The healing effect of history and poetry on people.
Zotopoulos’s extraordinary stories of metaphysical imagination are dominated by a distinct lyricism that seduces readers with the authenticity and originality of each story’s subject.
